Geofencing Explained

Geofencing Explained

Several of GroundCloud's features utilize Geofencing. In this article we will give an overview of how Geofencing is applied.

Overview

Broadly, Geofencing creates an area centered on a location that will track when a driver enters it.

This can be used for Time Card clock in/out centered around your terminal. When drivers arrive in the morning they are punched in, and when they get back to the terminal they are punched out.

Geofencing is also used to monitor when a driver gets close to their next delivery. As a driver crosses the Geofence (default 200ft from the stop), they will be prompted to confirm the delivery location.

Customization

Geofencing can be customized in the Settings page of your portal.
1) Delivery Check Radius

The Delivery check radius setting is the distance from each stop where the driver will be prompted for delivery. You can input a custom distance here that will apply to all routes. If you wish to disable this feature, set this field to 0.

2) Time Cards

Geofencing is used for the auto-clock in and out features.

The 'Auto-clockout distance' setting is the distance from the terminal where the drivers will be clocked out for the day. Once drivers get within this distance from the terminal, their clockout will be initiated and complete after the Auto-clockout Padding timeframe.

If you 'Enable geofence shift start', drivers will also be clocked in on arrival to the terminal after the Clock In Padding time is complete.
